Working at Agency you get exposed to more than your fair share of non-profit tech. Almost every client I’ve worked with in the past 3 years has had a different setup. It has ranged from different tools, different structure, integrations that work well or don’t work at all.
Don’t get me wrong, there are powerful things out there. We’ve robocalled Scott Morrison’s office to leave hundreds of voicemails, built NationBuilder sites with full suites of beautiful action templates and built full donation management systems on the back of WordPress.
Still, at the end of the day, it’s hard to avoid the fact that organisations working towards a more equal world are seriously underserved by technology.
We feel that a lot here, but I can only imagine how frustrating it is when you’re in the thick of a campaign.
For a long time, Agency has wanted to help find solutions to problems like these for the huge variety of organisations we’ve had the privilege to work with.
We first started with project-by-project and there were times we felt like we were building the same thing over and over again. Our digital team started to write code we could easily offer to each client – things like targeted email tools, donation plugins and events systems.
We realised that too often our clients were unable to build fundraising sites that met their needs, and too restricted by fundraising platforms that already existed – so we built Raisely. I thought CRMs were limiting how charities could engage their supporters, so in my spare time, I built Kepla.
The thing is that we don’t want to stop there. Both these products have a lot of room to grow, but there are also so many more areas where tech can make our charities and campaigns so much more impactful.
So we’re launching Agency Ventures.
I’m going to sidestep from my role as Agency’s Head of Digital to lead and grow this part of our business; with a mission to build amazing digital products for social good. I couldn’t be more excited.
I’ll still be working with our Sydney and New York digital teams to build amazing campaigns, but my focus will change to products that thousands of organisations can use.
This means we’re looking for new people to come onboard – both in Agency Sydney and Ventures. We’re hiring for a Head of Digital, a Technical Lead and a couple of developers.
